Alek and Deryn don't cross paths for most of the book, but each of their sections are enjoyable in their own right (though I preferred Deryn's), and it's knowing that the paths WILL cross (that's not a spoiler, that's reader logic) that makes it fun, because you wonder how it's going to happen. I'm fine with it, because I feel like while this book is a bit of a set-up, there's enough story here to leave me satisfied with my purchase. I'm not sure if it's a trilogy or a series or what, but book two, Behemoth, will be released this October, so know that when you start reading, you're going to end on something of a cliffhanger. But her secret is in constant danger of being discovered. With World War I brewing, Alek and Deryn’s paths cross in the most unexpected way…taking them on a fantastical, around-the-world adventure that will change both their lives forever. My Rating Worth the Cash: But I'll give you one warning: this book is very clearly the start of SOMETHING. All he has is a battletorn war machine and a loyal crew of men.Deryn Sharp is a commoner, disguised as a boy in the British Air Service. The premise: ganked from author's website: Prince Aleksander, would-be heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, is on the run.
